SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – A pair of individuals from the Sun Devil Women's Golf team received Pac-12 All-Academic honors, as the conference announced their All-Academic teams on Thursday morning.
The All-Academic teams are selected by the conference based on the following criteria: a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average, either starting status or identification as a significant substitute on the competitive team, and a minimum of one year of enrollment at the institution. Under these rules, freshman or first-year transfers are ineligible.
Two Sun Devils who were eligible for selection earned recognition, with Olivia Mehaffey landing on the Second Team as well as Raquel Olmos receiving Honorable Mention honors.
Junior Olivia Mehaffey was one of six on the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team. The sociology major has been getting it done on and off the field this season, racking up the accomplishments athletically while maintaining a 3.69 GPA. The Pac-12 Champion has won at least a share of the title at three of her last five tournaments, including earning Co-Medalist honors at the Norman Regional. Mehaffey is playing her best golf at the right time, rising to No. 7 in the latest Golfstat rankings.
Sophomore Raquel Olmos continues to become more comfortable in Tempe during her second season with the Sun Devils after arriving on the scene and earning a spot in the lineup as a freshman a season ago. Olmos took home Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors in her first year of eligibility. A consistent and reliable part of the lineup, Olmos has played in 10 of 11 tournaments this season. Her 74.00 stroke average is the second on the team, as she has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season. She has seven Top-20 finishes to her name, including a strong showing at the Pac-12 Championship in which she finished tied for 20th.
The academic honors continue to add up for the Arizona State Women's Golf program, as Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team takes pride in delivering on the field and in the classroom. Since the Pac-10/12 All-Academic Team was created in 1992 (27 seasons), at least two Sun Devils have landed on the list each year. ASU has had a total of 99 women's golf student-athletes honored by the Pac-12 since 1992. Additionally, the program was one of eight that earned a perfect APR (Academic Progress Rate) score, doing it for the third consecutive season.
Arizona State prepares for their 35th NCAA Championship, as they will compete at Blessings Golf Club in Fayettville, Arkansas. The Sun Devils are one of 24 teams that qualified for the tournament that will take place from May 17th-22nd. The first four days of NCAA's will be stroke play with the final two days switching to match play format, which will determine the National Champion.
