TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State junior goaltender Joey Daccord has signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the NHL's Ottawa Senators, the club announced Monday. He will join the team tomorrow in Ottawa, and remain with the Senators for the remainder of the season.

Daccord becomes the first Sun Devil in program history to sign an NHL entry-level deal.

"It's an incredible honor and something I've worked towards my whole life and I couldn't' have done it without Arizona State University, coach Powers, and the entire staff at Sun Devil Hockey. I'm incredibly thankful for everyone that's been a part of this, including the Ottawa Senators organization."

The 2019 Mike Richter Award Finalist was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.

"We couldn't be more proud of Joey," said head coach Greg Powers. "Joey came here to set a standard and he did that and more. Joey is a Sun Devil for life and we cannot wait to support him on his journey in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators."

In 2018-19, Daccord set program records, including starting all 35 games for the Sun Devils at 21-13-1. He ranked among the top goaltenders in all stat lines, including NCAA-leading seven shutouts during the regular season, and finishing with a .926 save percentage and 2.35 goals against average.

The North Andover, Mass. native finished his three-year stint at ASU with a 32-40-7 record, .913 save percentage and 3.07 goals against average.

The Ottawa Senators have four games remaining in the regular season, including at home against Tampa Bay tonight, at the New York Rangers on Wednesday, at the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday and the regular season finale on Saturday at home against Columbus.

To sign with the team that drafted you…
"It's really cool to be drafted and it is a special day, and to see it come to fruition on the other end and sign with the same team that drafted you so long ago, it's really cool and something I'm incredibly proud of. Today is just a really special day for me and my family."

To be the first Sun Devil to sign an NHL entry-level contract…
"It's insane to think about, especially when I committed, Arizona State hadn't even played a Division I game yet. Now to be the first player to sign an NHL contract out of ASU is something I'm incredibly proud of. It's so special, and I couldn't have done it without everyone here and Sun Devil Nation. It's truly an incredible moment."

What have you taken away from your three years at ASU…
"I think the things I've learned the most being here is first off how to be a good person off the ice and how to conduct yourself like a professional. It's something coach Powers has always harped on is being a good person first and being a good student before being a good athlete. That's something I really took to heart. In regards to hockey, it's always being prepared for whatever is going to come at you next, always being prepared to compete at the highest level, and be at your best no matter what the situation is. That's something I'm definitely going to take with me for the rest of my life."

To Senators fans…
"I'm really excited and looking forward to the opportunity, and can't wait to get started. Go Sens Go!"
