FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The No. 15 Arizona State men's swim team picked up where they left off on night one, adding events to their NCAA championships schedule while demolishing the program record in the 200 free relay.
"All in all today was a bit of a mixed bag with lots of best times in the morning and a little nervousness from our freshmen at night," said head coach Bob Bowman. "The relay gave us the burst of energy we needed to be ready for a great day tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to swimming that event at NCAA's."
The Sun Devils capped another exciting night of competition as Patrick Park, Andrew Porter, Richard Bohus, and Cameron Craig achieved an NCAA qualifying time in the 200 free relay and a podium finish (third place), also setting another Arizona State record.
"Richard Bohus had the fastest internal relay spot in the entire event and we crushed the ASU record, which was exciting. Cameron Craig missed the school record in the IM by just .03 but easily qualified in that event and had a great learning experience."
Craig swam a lifetime best 1:42.75 in the 200 IM, good for fourth place in the evening's competition.
Multiple other Sun Devils swam PR's in their respective events including Aidan O'Hara in the 500 free, and Joe Molinari and Thomaz Martins in the 200 IM.
Following day two of competition with two more days to go, the Sun Devils are in fourth place (179), just 20 points behind Cal in third (199). Stanford (336) and USC (231) hold on to the top two spots. Utah is currently in fifth (114) with Arizona in sixth (74).
Friday brings five individual events (400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back), with prelims in the morning (12 noon MT/11 am PT) and finals at night (7 pm MT/6 pm PT). Friday evening's finals will also include the 400 medley relay to cap the night.
