INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 15 Sun Devil men's swim/dive team capped the 2017 NCAA championships and 2016-17 season on a high note with multiple other All-American accolades, as well as a significant jump in team standings from a year ago.

In 2016, the Sun Devil men finished 44th, moving up to 14th this year, while also scoring 100 points, 98 more than last year.

"This is such a special group of athletes and staff," said head swim coach Bob Bowman. "Anyone who was with us at this meet last year would find it hard to believe that we could go from 2 points to 100 and 44th place to 14th in just one year."

The 400 free relay team put an exclamation point on the weekend and season, moving up two places from prelims to finals and finishing sixth overall for All-American status (2:49.00).

Senior Richard Bohus also finished his collegiate career by earning his second All-American Honorable Mention status of the weekend in the 200 back, finishing third in the consolation final and 11th overall.

Christian Lorenz competed in his second individual event of the weekend, the 200 breast, placing 27th in the morning prelims.

Heikki Makikallio and Youssef Selim finished just outside the top-16 in the platform dive, in 17th (322.30) and 18th place (321.75), respectively.

"To see where the swim and dive program was six or seven years ago to where it is now is so exciting," said head diving coach Mark Bradshaw. "To move up 30 spots and finish 14th is amazing and we're so thankful for the commitment from our alumni association and from the top down, starting with Ray Anderson."

The Arizona State men cap a season in which they were named the most-improved men's team in the nation, setting numerous school records, and the first ASU swim All-Americans since 2008.

"These athletes believed in our program, believed in each other, and most importantly believed in themselves," Bowman said. "Of the eight swimmers we brought here, four are First Team All-Americans and four are Honorable Mention All-Americans. Each athlete scored points for ASU and all of us will remember this meet for years to come."

Over the last four days, eight Sun Devils earned All-American Accolades (four First Team, four Second Team), the most for ASU since 2003.

Bowman concluded on the season, "I can't think our administrators, our coaches, and our support staff enough for the incredible enthusiasm and hard work that all put into our program. It's a very special time to be a Sun Devil."
