Sun Devil captain Jared du Toit took home the individual medal at The Prestige at PGA West, as the senior shot a 9-under 204 to continue his impressive senior season at the Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif.
"Jared is undefeated in 2017, and this weekend he beat two of the best players in the nation," noted head coach Matt Thurmond. "He is a very focused and is playing with a high level of maturity and a special amount of intensity. He wants to win now, and wants to win a lot. The course played tough and was very tricky, and that favors a player like Jared. He was a man among boys this week."
The top-ranked collegiate player in the nation according to Golfweek is Maverick McNealy, who finished tied for 18th at 1-over 214. Golfweek's third-ranked collegian is Sam Burns, who finished second at 5-under 209, as du Toit shot 3-under on the par-3 holes and 4-under on the par-4 holes. He had 13 birdies (tied for second) and one eagle en route to the win.
Behind du Toit for @ASUMensGolf was senior Nicolo Galletti, finishing tied for 26th with 11 birdies in the tournament, whlle freshman Blake Wagoner tied for 32nd. Jino Sohn, playing as an individual, shot an 8-over 221 (76-73-72) and tied for 39th.
Junior Ryan Douglass and freshman Chun An Yu both finished tied for 63rd to round out the Sun Devil lineup.
Next up for @ASUMensGolf is the NIT in Tucson, hosted by University of Arizona. The two-day event takes place February 27-28 at OMNI Tucson National Golf Course.
