STANFORD, Calif. – The Arizona State gymnastics team had a season-best performance Monday night as they faced No. 12 Stanford at Burnham Pavilion. The Cardinal defeated the Sun Devils 195.750 to 194.425, but ASU used highs from two events and personal bests in each rotation to surpass 194 for the first time this season.
Freshman Heather Udowitch achieved new season-high scores in three rotations and freshman Corinne Belkoff competed in all four rotations for the first time in her career, also scoring season bests in three events. Katelyn Lentz’s all-around score of 38.975 also marks a team-high for the season.
The Sun Devils started the meet off strong, improving their season high score on bars to 48.375, the best since posting a 48.325 in the season opener on Jan. 8. Carissa Kraus scored highest for the Gym Devils with 9.750, and tied her season-best score. Heather Udowitch achieved a season-best score of 9.625, as did Katelyn Lentz with a 9.700.
On vault, ASU finished with a team total of 48.450. Senior Taylor Allex had the team’s highest score with 9.875 and finished second overall in the event. Corinne Belkoff achieved a new season-best score of 9.725.
ASU was strongest on floor, achieving a season-high score of 48.975. Freshmen Belkoff and Udowitch each achieved season-best scores and Belkoff took second in the event, placing for the first time this season.
The Gym Devils finished strong on beam and Katelyn Lentz and Heather Udowitch tied with a team high score of 9.775. Allie Salas also tied her high score of 9.725
The Sun Devils return to Wells Fargo Arena on Monday, Feb.15 to host California at 7 p.m. MT. The meet will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
