TEMPE, Ariz. – The freshman class led the way for the Gym Devils in the 2016 home opener against the No. 11 Nebraska Huskers and Bowling Green in Wells Fargo Arena Friday night. ASU finished in second with a score of 192.700 behind the Huskers (194.050), and Bowling Green following in third (191.900).

Each event featured three freshmen gymnasts in the line-up, with four featured on floor. Freshman Katelyn Lentz shined for the Gym Devils, competing in the all-around in her collegiate debut, finishing tied for first on floor with a 9.850. 

The Gym Devils lead the competition through the first two rotations, boasting vault and bars totals of 48.375 and 48.325, respectively. Senior Allie Salas led the Devils on vault with a 9.800, with senior Taylor Allex following with a 9.725. On bars, seniors Carissa Kraus and Kristine Levin led the Devils with a pair of 9.750s. 

On beam, freshman Heather Udowitch boasted a 9.750 in her collegiate debut, with fellow freshman Corinne Belkoff following with a 9.725. Floor featured the team-high from Lentz, followed by a 9.825 from Allex. 

Up next, the Gym Devils open up Pac-12 competition on Monday, January 18th with the Washington Huskies at 7 p.m. MT in Wells Fargo Arena. The meet will air live on the Pac-12 Network.
