How good is Jon Rahm?

This year’s recipient of the Ben Hogan Award, the most prestigious award in men’s amateur golf, World Amateur No. 1, and first-team All-American continues to rack up accolades in the summer season.

Sunday afternoon the Sun Devil senior successfully defended his title in the Spanish Amateur Championship at the Laukariz Country Club in Rahm’s native Spain, posting a 72-hole total of seven-under-par, finishing three ahead of runner-up Scott Fernandez.

Rahm, throughout his career, has had success playing on his home-turf, twice winning the Spanish Amateur (2014, ’15), while winning the Basque Country Championship in 2012, and the Spanish Junior Championship in 2010.

Up next, Rahm and fellow Sun Devil swinger Max Rottluff (World No. 27 Amateur) will compete in the U.S. Amateur held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago, Illinois. Rahm and Rottluff will have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of three former Sun Devil U.S. Amateur Champions including Jeff Quinney (2000), Phil Mickelson (1990), and Billy Mayfair (1987).

The Championship consists of two days of stroke play, followed by knockout competition held at match play to decide the winner of the leading 64 competitors. For the first time the tournament will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club which has been the host of four major championships, twice serving as a U.S. Open venue. FOX Sports 1 will kick of coverage of the Championship on Wednesday, August 19th from 3-6 p.m. EDT. Coverage will remain on FOX Sports 1 through Friday, with the Semifinals Match on Saturday, August 22, and Finals on Sunday, August 23, on FOX.
