Sun Devil Updated Statistics/Box scores from ASU-Utah and ASU-Colorado
ASU led 49-41 with 7:17 left and 53-47 with 3:47 remaining but Utah didn't quit and came back to top ASU 60-55 in Salt Lake City Wednesday.
Carrick Felix had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss, as ASU fell to 7-5 in the Pac-12 and 18-7 overall. It will next face Colorado on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT on ESPNU.
Jahii Carson added 12 points while Chris Colvin had a solid game off the bench with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes.
ASU was just 4-of-10 from the free throw line, matching a season-low for free throws made (also at Washington State on Jan. 31) and fell behind by 10 early and trailed by seven in the half (29-22).
"There were just things that didn't make a whole lot of sense that hurt us, "said ASU coach Herb Sendek. "When we had fouled outside the lanes with 11 seconds on the shot clock, another foul at the end of the shot clock out front with the three seconds. I think that resulted in four points. They [Utah] weren't in the best of situations. But to their credit they made a nice three up top and then finished the game."
"We didn't finish the game the way we needed to. It's always disappointing when you lose. Not just now, but in the first game of the year, last game of the year. It's always disappointing to not do the things that you expect to do. That doesn't change in sports depending in sports depending on the game or the date- you're always trying to do your best. Washburn absolutely had his way with us- 26 at the end of the night, with just a terrific high energy level. We don't have any easy games. You've got to play really well to win. Sometimes you play really well and still don't win. Tonight we didn't do things down the stretch that you need to do on the road in a close game to seal the win."
It marked the 10th double-double of the season for Carrick Felix, including seven in 12 Pac-12 games.
