POSTGAME QUOTES: ASU Now 2-0 In Overtime After 98-93 Wild Win Over USC

Jan. 25, 2013

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

QUOTING EVAN (GORDON)
"I'm just playing with confidence. We're playing as a team more in the last three games, even though we had tough games against Oregon and Arizona. I'm coming around, and shaking off the rust."

ARE YOU PLAYING WITH MORE URGENCY WITH CHRIS (COLVIN) OUT?
"It's a team effort when a guy goes down. Personally, I know I need to step up. With a game like this, I know I need to continue building from the last game and move to the next one."

ON WHAT COACH SAID IN THE HUDDLE HEADING INTO OVERTIME
"We knew we were confident in winning. When we went into the huddle, we just pulled together and said we have to stop them every time."

QUOTING JAHII (CARSON)
"Yeah, we needed a couple of these games. So now we are ready for coming down on a clutch game again, because we have a little experience. There's really nothing you can do when they are throwing up threes and just hitting them. We were confident throughout the game that we were going to win. Then they started hitting the second shots. So in overtime we were still confident, and we didn't think that they could beat us."

ON HIS MIDRANGE GAME
"With me being a little guy, I can't get to the basket every single time. So teams are starting to back up off me, I have to be able knock down 15-foot jumper. If they continue to do that, I'll continue to make them pay. I feel more confident hitting the 15 footer, so I'm going to continue to shoot them."

QUOTING USC HEAD COACH BOB CANTU
ON IF HE REMEMBERS A GAME WHERE THEY SHOT THAT MANY THREES
"Probably not. There's not many times I remember shooting twenty-eight threes and we made fifteen. The ball was going in and it was just that kind of game. It was faster-paced and we were taking shots. It was great because we've been trying to pick up our offense, but in doing so, we have to tighten up our defense. If we don't, we can't expect to win on the road."

ON THE KEYS TO THE COMEBACK
"Just not giving up. Keep pushing. When we got the ball, we wanted to keep attacking. Keep attacking trying to get a good look and we did that. We made shots. The key was when we got the rebound, to get it out, have a high outlet, and try to attack them before they set up. We had some good looks in the last stretch. We made some shots. They (ASU) came shooting. They're a good team. There's a reason why they got fifteen wins."

ON HIS OVERTIME PLAN
"Number one, obviously we were trying to stop them offensively. They were in such a rhythymn. If you look at Evan Gordon, he gets twenty-eight points and he did a good job of attacking the basket. We had a tough time corralling Jahii (Carson). I was trying to keep him from doing what he did and put up some zone to be able to do that. The key was, I was trying to win the tip and we didn't win the tip that first possession. I think in the situation where you're on the road, you just have to keep battling and keep fighting all the way to the end. Our guys did that."

TALKING ABOUT JAHII
"He makes them go. He's live with the ball at all times. He's great in the open court. He's very good on ball screens. He's always probing and looking to make a play. He kind of makes them go. They have great shooters around him. Herb (Sendek) is a tremendous coach. He has a great offense and they're difficult to defend. When Jahii's out of the game, obviously it's a different look. They still have great players like Gordon with twenty-eight, Felix with sixteen. They're obviously very good."
