INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Senior Harrison Jones started national competition with a fifth-place finish at the men’s swimming and diving NCAA Championships. Alongside junior Riley McCormick, the two divers earned 23 points for the Sun Devils, who currently sit at 13th.
The Texas native scored 393.65 to come in at fifth overall in the 1-meter springboard competition, his second highest placing during his collegiate career. Jones’ current career best is fourth place, which he earned at the 2009 Championships. With this finish, Jones earns All-American honors, his third accolade.
Riley McCormick scored 369.70 for a ninth-place finish, which was first in the consolation round. McCormick competed for the Sun Devils on the national level after sitting out last season. He finished first in the 1- and 3-meter competitions the previous season as a sophomore.
Jones and McCormick face the 3-meter springboard on Friday and the platform on Saturday, while the swim team will see action in two preliminary events, with Alex Coci swimming the 100-yard fly and Thibaut Capitaine in the 100-yard breaststroke.
