April 11, 2012

Final Stats

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Inclement weather played a factor in Wednesday’s matchup between Arizona State softball and Oregon State. The Sun Devils pulled out a 3-2 victory to even the series at 1-1 before the third game was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

The final game of the series was cancelled due to inclement weather and a predetermined drop-dead time scheduled for the ASU travel arrangements.

After the series split 1-1, Arizona State is 36-5, 8-2 Pac-12 and Oregon State is 27-11, 4-4 Pac-12.

Hillary Bach is now a spotless 17-0 after the early win on the day with help from Amber Freeman’s three-run homer in the top of the sixth. Freeman finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Dallas Escobedo earned her fourth save of the game in the contest.

On Tuesday night, Oregon State jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, using three hits and two ASU errors to plate Erin Guzy. Guzy reached on an infield single and came home on Lea Cavestany’s hit to right.

Play resumed Wednesday in the top of the fifth with ASU making quick work to score in the sixth. Alix Johnson led the frame off with a walk and moved around to third with back-to-back groundouts. Haley Steele then reached via base on balls setting up Freeman for her seventh long ball of the year.

Freeman’s homer gave her three RBI in the contest, tying her career high in the category.

Oregon State made one last effort in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded scoring Madison Bundy to close the gap at 3-2. Escobedo then entered the circle for Bach to record the final out of the game by strikeout to end the threat.

Paige Hall garners the loss for OSU, dropping to 12-2 on the year.
