For the second straight game ASU jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but unlike Wednesday against DePaul the Sun Devils were able to sustain their lead, dominating their way to a 61-42 victory over Dartmouth from Wells Fargo Arena.
Jordan Bachynski began the scoring early with a layup, and then went on to score the team's first seven out of nine points. He didn't miss in the first half, going 4-4 from the field with nine points while grabbing four rebounds. His fourth basket came just before the halftime buzzer as he put back a missed Jahii Carson layup.
Carson shot well in the first half, going 5-9 with 10 points to lead all scorers at the break. He left the game and went back to the locker room early after receiving an elbow to the head, but was able to return shortly after and continue to play.
Dartmouth used a 6-0 run early to tie the game at 11, but the Sun Devils responded by going on a 14-point run of their own, which helped them enjoy a 31-21 lead heading into the locker room. The 21 first half points allowed by Arizona State is the least they have allowed this year. They entered the game 7-0 when leading at the half, a streak that would be improved to 8-0 by the game's resolution.
ASU entered the game averaging 11 turnovers per game but had nine in the first half alone. Dartmouth had eight turnovers of their own. The Sun Devils dominated the first half in the paint, scoring 26 points from in close to the Big Green's six.
Carson opened the scoring in the second half with a layup and then two free throws, extending the lead to 14. Entering today Carson's 58 free throws made and 81 free throws attempted ranked tops among freshman in the nation and was tied for seventh overall in the country.
The Sun Devils controlled the game throughout the second half, wearing Dartmouth down despite their efforts to remain close. They went on a 12-1 run late in the game to extend the lead to 18, sealing their ninth victory of the season.
Carrick Felix had himself a career game as he filled all the categories of the box score. He posted 14 rebounds and five blocks, both career highs, to go along with his 13 points and four steals. This marks his third career double-double.
Carson led the way in scoring with 18 points on 8-16 shooting. He also had six assists and four steals.
The Sun Devils have an entire week off before they take to the road as they travel to Lubbock, Texas for a 1:00 p.m. (MT) slate against Texas Tech.
