LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Junior Tristin Baxter and senior Shannon Landgrebe broke local records at Spieker Aquatics Center as the Arizona State swimming and diving teams recorded losses in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. The men were outscored by Cal State Bakersfield 155-139, while the women lost to UCLA 190.5-108.5.
Baxter broke the Spieker Aquatics Center record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:53.40. She currently holds the Arizona State record in the 1000 from her split at the 2012 NCAA Championships in the 1650, where she clocked in at 9:43.49. Landgrebe broke the 200 freestyle record at Spieker with a time of 1:48.03. Landgrebe is the ASU record holder in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.35 at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
In diving, Harrison Jones placed first in both the one- and three-meter diving contests for the men, racking up scores of 408.80 and 418.15 respectively. Freshman Morgan Weller, one of the top female recruits in the nation, placed second in the one-meter and fourth in the three-meter dive, scoring 294.55 and 289.05.
The women also saw victories in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyles as well as the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. The men placed first in the 200 medley, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke and the 200 IM.
The Devils continue their California road trip tomorrow as they travel to USC to take on the Trojans in a dual meet Saturday at 11:30 a.m. MT.
