SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Arizona State University wrestling team dropped its eighth consecutive dual on Friday night, falling to Cal Poly, 26-11, at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Redshirt freshman Shane McGough got back to his winning ways against the Mustangs, scoring a tech fall over Michael Clemmensen at the 5:20 mark by a score of 18-3. With the win, 11 of McGough’s 15 victories this season have now come by bonus points.
Fellow freshman Kevin Radford earned his third consecutive victory for the Sun Devils (5-10, 1-2 Pac-12) with a 6-5 decision over Sean Dougherty to not the score at three after two bouts. Cal Poly (5-5, 3-2 Pac-12) would take over from there though, winning six of the eight remaining matchups.
Redshirt freshman Joel Smith got the Sun Devils lone other win at 149 pounds with a 5-3 decision of Kyle Chene.
The Sun Devils were competing without the team’s leader in wins as Levi Cooper sat out his first competition of the season on Friday.
ASU will be back in action for its final road dual of the season on Sunday as the team squares off against Pac-12 foe CSU Bakersfield in Bakersfield, Calif., with the match set to begin at 2 p.m. PT.
