NORMAN, Okla. -- The Arizona State University wrestling team finished up its first true road trip of the season on Sunday, falling to the #11 Oklahoma Sooners, 33-7, at the McCasland Field House in Norman, Okla.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Radford earned a weekend sweep at 184 pounds with an upset over No. 20 Erich Schmidtke, but it was too late for ASU as the Sun Devils (5-9, 1-1 Pac-12) were overwhelmed by the Sooner depth in the lower weight classes.
Oklahoma won the first six bouts of the competition, all with bonus points, to build an insurmountable lead before senior Eric Starks got ASU on the board with a major decision over Nolan McBryde, 12-3.
Radford was up next and took advantage of a late reversal with just about a minute left in the competition to give him the deciding points a 4-3 victory in the dual. It was the 13th win of the season for the youngster from Fayetteville, N.C.
The Sun will be back in action next weekend on the road against Pac-12 foes Cal Poly on Friday in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and CSU Bakersfield in Bakersfield, Calif., on Sunday.
