The Arizona State Sun Devils are now 5-2 on the year after concluding the Kajikawa Classic with an 8-0, five-inning victory against Cal Poly on Sunday afternoon.

Hillary Bach finished the opening weekend with an extraordinary stat line: 3-0 record over 19.1 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. During her three shutouts she combined to hold opposing batters to a .123 batting average, a best on the ASU pitching staff.

ASU 8, Cal Poly 0 (5)
The Devils wasted no time putting runs on the board, tallying a trio in the bottom of the third. ASU loaded the bases on three walks forcing the Mustangs to bring Rebecca Patton in to pitch for Chloe Wurst. Haley Steele then reached on a fielder’s choice to score Elizabeth Caporuscio.

A Bailey Wigness infield single plated Parlich followed by Christina Zambrana coming home in a Katelyn Boyd at-bat to make it a 3-0 start.

Three-straight singles in the third inning set up a bases loaded situation for Sam Parlich who then reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Annie Lockwood to score.

Steele followed with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Caporuscio from third. A Wigness single up the middle scored Parlich to make it 6-0. Taylor Haro’s two-run single to center plated the final two runs as Wigness and Zambrana came in on the hit for the eventual final score of 8-0.

Wigness finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored while five collected hits against the Mustangs on the day. Bach struck out three in the two-hit 5.0 inning outing.

ASU will host its second of four tournaments starting on Feb. 17-19 with the Littlewood Classic being held at Farrington Stadium.
