No. 6 Stanford Tops Volleyball 3-0

STANFORD, Calif. – The Arizona State volleyball squad falls to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in Pac-12 after the sixth-ranked Stanford Cardinal shut out the Sun Devils 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 on Friday night in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford improves to 9-3 on the year and an even 3-3 in conference. Top attacker on the night for the Sun Devils was Erica Wilson who registered 12 kills.

In the first, Arizona State hit an impressive 13 kills, to Stanford’s 12, but errors were a deciding factor in allowing the Cardinal to escape 25-17. A-State did not go down without a fight though, taking the nationally ranked foe to 12 ties and six lead changes with help from Wilson’s five kills.

The second stanza proved more difficult for the maroon and gold as A-State could only chalk up 11 kills on a .053 attack percentage. Ashley Kastl added four kills to her name, with Sarah McGaffin bringing home 10 assists.

Nora Tuioti-Mariner paced ASU in the deciding set with six kills, but it was not enough as Stanford rolled away with the sweep taking the set 25-18.

Stanford hit at a .235 clip and was paced offensively by Carly Wopat and her 12 kills, good for a .524 attack percentage.

ASU continues its road swing with a 7 p.m. match at California on Saturday.
