EUGENE, Ore. - The 16th-ranked Oregon Ducks beat the Arizona State volleyball team, 3-1, on Sunday - dropping ASU to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-12.
Oregon, who won the match 25-12, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, improves to 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
Danica Mendivil and Ashley Kastl led the offensive attack, posting 12 and 11 kills on the day, respectively, with Kastl registering a double-double while adding in 14 digs. Sarah McGaffin rang in 38 assists, but the trio's efforts were not enough as the Sun Devils were only able to rally a win off in the second frame, 25-22. During the second set, ASU hit at a .250 clip and held the Ducks to .182, UO's lowest of the match.
Alaina Bergsma had a match-best 22 kills with help from Lauren Plum's 53 assists to lead an Oregon squad that hit at a .279 attack percentage overall. Set one proved swift work for the Ducks who picked up the frame 25-12.
In set two, ASU nabbed its only set of the match, 25-22, after six ties. The Sun Devils went on to combine for 14 ties and eight lead changes in the final two frames, before falling 25-20 in the third and 25-23 in the fourth stanza.
Arizona State returns to the friendly confines of Wells Fargo Arena starting Sept. 23, to host Washington State at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. tilt against Washington on Sunday.
