FULLERTON, Calif. – A stellar game from Hillary Bach and a three-for-three game from Katelyn Boyd with two runs scored and three RBIs gave the No. 5 Sun Devils Softball team all the firepower it needed Saturday as they closed out their stint at the 2011 Judi Garmen Classic with a 9-3 win over the Boise State Broncos. Bach moves to a perfect 8-0 on the year while the Sun Devils now hold at 30-2 overall.
While the ASU offense cranked it up in the first inning scoring two off Alix Johnson’s 2 RBI double to left center and five more through the next two innings with RBIs from Kaelyn Boyd, Sam Parlich and Lacy Goodman to give A State a 8-0 lead after four.
On the flipside, Hillary Bach was nearly untouchable as she pitched three perfect innings against the Broncos with her infield making some highlight reel plays in the game going three-up-three-down until the fourth when the BSU bats came alive, as they snaked a run across in the fourth to make it 8-1.
The Sun Devils retaliated in kind in the top of the sixth with an RBI from Krista Donnenwirth and looked to try and close the game out early, but the wily Broncos had other plans as they put two more on the board which saw Dallas Escobedo enter the game to close it out as ASU ran off with a 9-3 win.
The Sun Devils return home now to host UCSB next weekend in a three-game series with games on Friday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday’s games will be at 7 p.m. PT with Sunday’s starting at noon in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
