Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. – Fueled by Dallas Escobedo’s nine strikeouts and Krista Donnewirth’s two-for-three and brilliant field play led the No. 8 ASU Softball Team to a 6-2 win over the Michigan State Spartans Friday night in Tempe.  Escobedo moves to 7-0 on the year as ASU improves to 10-1 as Michigan State falls to 7-4.

The Sun Devils got the party started early as they snagged a run in the first inning with a ripped RBI single to left field to bring home lead run scorer for the Sun Devils, Katelyn Boyd. With Escobedo mowing down the competition the Sun Devils struck again in the fourth with Donnenwirth leading off with a double that was brought home with an RBI by Kaylyn Castillo.

A costly throwing error for ASU gave the MSU two runs to tie the score at 2-2 in the fifth, though the Sun Devils retaliated immediately in the bottom of the inning as they plastered four runs on the board with RBIs by Sam Parlich, Kaylyn Castillo and Lesley Rogers to pull it to 6-2 where with Dallas Escobedo flashing the skills the score remained that way.

The Sun Devils will face the MSU Spartans again tomorrow in a double header starting at noon time with the second game following immediately after to try and avoid incoming weather.
