PALO ALTO, Calif..—The fifth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team is in seventh place after the first round of the 2011 Stanford Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday. The Sun Devils shot a first-round total of 1-over 285, eight strokes off first-place leaders UCLA and Washington.
Senior Giulia Molinaro leads the Sun Devils, shooting a 2-under 69 on a day that saw ultra low rounds come off the course. Molinaro, who carded five birdies in the round, is tied for ninth.
Sophomore Justine Lee also shot below par for ASU, recording a 1-under 70 on day one of competition. The Australia native is tied for 13th headed into round two on Saturday.
The second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate continues at the par-71, 6,100-yard Stanford Golf Course. Arizona State has won the event a total of five times for the long-standing tournament. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
