TEMPE, Ariz. (Jessica Schott, ASU Media Relations) - Arizona State broke an 11-game losing streak to USC in style, dominating the #23 Trojans, 43-22. Cameron Marshall ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns, including a 70-yard touchdown run on his first carry of the game.
ASU quarterback Brock Osweiler had another explosive game, going 24 for 32 with 223 yards and two touchdowns. Osweiler gave credit to his offensive linemen saying “they [were] the real reason why we won this game”.
The Sun Devils forced USC into four turnovers, including two interceptions of USC’s Matt Barkley. Vontaze Burfict jumped in front of a Barkley pass and came up with his first career interception, giving the Sun Devil’s another chance to score on the Trojans. That’s exactly what they did as Osweiler hit Jamal Miles for a 3-yard touchdown pass that made it 21-6 ASU.
The Trojans would not quit, as they scored 16 straight points to take a 22-21 lead midway through the third quarter. Arizona State answered right back with a 3-yard touchdown run from Marshall. That gave the Sun Devils the lead back at 28-22.
After another USC turnover, the Sun Devils were quick to capitalize, as Marshall scored his third touchdown of the night. Just 30 seconds later, Arizona State’s Shelly Lyons sealed the Sun Devils’ victory with a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown.
