TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team was defeated by Texas Tech 5-0 on Friday on the first day of the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Cats Classic being hosted by the University of Arizona.
The Red Raiders (5-3) scored all five of their goals in the second half after the two teams played a scoreless first half.
Texas Tech took a lead it would not relinquish less than two minutes into the second half when Red Raider senior midfielder Taylor Lytle set up teammate Madison Terry. Terry took Lytle's pass deep inside the box and fired a shot into the net to give the Red Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
Texas Tech would extend its lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute when sophomore forward Jessica Fuston finished a scoring opportunity created by Terry.
In the 74th minute Terry scored her second goal of the game to increase the Red Raiders' advantage to 3-0.
The Red Raiders added goals in the 79th minute (freshman forward Paige Strahan) and 84th minute (junior midfielder Tiffini Smith) to make the final count 5-0.
Three Sun Devils - Nicole Acosta, Blair Alderson and Sarah Van Horn- tied for the team lead with two shots each.
ASU was once again without forwards Devin Marshall (missed fourth straight game) and Nicki Stone(missed fifth straight game) because of injury.
ASU (3-4) returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. when it plays Pacific in Tucson.
