Sun Devil Men's Cross Country Takes Second in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - Paced by Matt Estlund, The Arizona State University men's cross country team took second place at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday evening. 

Estlund, a redshirt sophomore, clocked the fast time in his career on the Dell Urich Golf Course to finish eighth overall in the men's 4.25 mile run.  In his third appearence on the course in Tucson, Estlund clocked a time of 21:45.0 to lead the ASU squad - nearly half a minute faster than his previous best time in the event.

Right on Estlund's heels was teammate Jesus Molina - competing n his first collegiate race - in ninth in a time of 22:01.0.  Steven Schneiders was the third Sun Devil in the top-20, clocking a time of 22:15.0 to finish 16th.  

Josh Walker, a new acquisition to the team, was next across the line for ASU in 22:27.0 in 20th while Andrew Hagler rounded out the point-scoring individuals with a 23rd-place, 22:32.0 performance to give the Sun Devils their fifth top-25 performer.

The host Arizona won the men's competition with 34 points while ASU tallied 64 points in the runner-up effort.

The Sun Devil cross country squad will now look ahead to its first big test of the season, as the team heads way north to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational next weekend, which will feature some of the top teams in the country.
