TEMPE – Samantha Henderson scored a personal-best 3,450 points on the first day of action at the Jim Click Multis in Tucson on Thursday afternoon, leading the way for five Arizona State University athletes that all posted personal-best scores in their events, including all three men in the decathlon and both women in the heptathlon. Jamie Sandys leads the way for the men with his third-place standing while four total Sun Devils are in the Top 5.
Henderson’s score, nearly 200 points better than her previous first-day best, leads the 13-woman field in the heptathlon while Keia Pinnick sits third with 3,176 points, a personal-best by 87 points. On the men’s side, Sandys’ score of 3,711 points has him in third overall and is 139 points better than his previous first-day best. Trailing Sandys in the standings in the 18-man decathlon is Austin Prince, who is fifth with 3,628 points (a 263-point improvement), and Jeremy Marcinko, who is 14th with 3,257 points (a 158-point improvement).
Including first-day scores (28 total events on the day for all five Sun Devils combined), ASU athletes scored personal-bests 22 times on the day. Henderson recorded personal-best marks in all five instances (four events and first-day score) while Pinnick posted three. On the men’s side, both Sandys and Prince set personal-bests in five events while Marcinko improved in four.
Henderson opened the day with 971 points in the 100m hurdles as she was third overall in 14.05, just ahead of Pinnick’s 14.07, and 0.03 better than her previous best. Her high jump mark ties her seventh on ASU’s all-time list as well. She closed out the day by running 25.41 in the 200m dash to collect her final 850 points of the day.
Pinnick, after opening in third, slipped a bit as she was tied for ninth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60m (5-03.00) for 736 points, which equalled her collegiate multi-event best mark. From there, she finished 10th in the shot put with a toss of 9.81m (32-02.25) for 517 points before closing out the day by winning the 200m dash in 24.27 to collect 955 points and stand third overall.

After finishing eighth in the 100m dash in 11.32 for 791 points, he added personal-bests in the long jump with his leap of 6.83m (22-05.00), which earned him 774 points, and his toss of 12.67m (41-07.00) in the shot put for another 647 points. After clearing 1.93m (6-04.00), just 2cm off his best mark, Sandys capped the day with an all-time best in the 400m dash by running 51.23 for 759 points.
