GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Although it closed out the dual with a pair of wins by fall, the Arizona State University wrestling team could not overcome and early deficit as it fell to Air Force, 26-23, in the second of four duals taking place at the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas. Both teams won five matches, but the Falcons scored three more bonus points to ultimately take the overall dual to send the Sun Devils to a 5-5 record on the season.

It was business as usual at 125 pounds where No. 2 Anthony Robles opened the dual with another win by technical fall, this time defeating Andrew Zwirlein with a 16-0 score for the Sun Devil senior’s 13th win in 20 matches by technical fall. Although ASU was ahead, 5-0, in the team standings through the first match, that lead did not last long as the Falcons won four matches in a row to take a lead of 20-5. In that span, David Prado lost a 9-3 decision at 133, Kalin Goodsite lost a 16-0 technical fall to No. 8 Cole VonOhlen at 141, Josh Kreimier pinned Tai Fukumoto in 2:08 at 149 and Alec Williams won by forfeit at 157.

At 165, Te Edwards halted the losing skid as he scored a 7-2 decision over Clay Gable to make it 20-8, but ASU had to forfeit 174 because of injury, making it 26-8 and forcing ASU into needing to win each of the last three matches by fall just to tie the score. The fight for the team win came to end right away at 184 as Jake Meredith did win his match, but the 10-3 decision only scored three points for the team, ending the come-from-behind bid.

The Sun Devils closed out the dual with a pair of pins in the final two matches, however, as Luke Macchiaroli won in 2:20 at 197 pounds and Levi Cooper stuck his foe in 6:57 (just three seconds remaining in the match) at heavyweight. With their 12 points, ASU would end up falling in the dual by three points, 26-23.

ASU faces No. 19 American at 4 p.m. today before taking on No. 9 (D2) Central Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
