Bryan, Texas--Arizona State head coach Melissa Luellen was right when she prophesied the "Sun Devils were saving their best for last". Junior Carlota Ciganda tied her career-low round of 66 in the final round of the 2010 NCAA Fall Preview held at the par-72, 6,271 Traditions Club.
The NCAA Fall Preview, hosted by Texas A&M, serves as the future site for this season's NCAA Championship competition.
"Carlota played fantastic today," said Luellen. "It was a pleasure to watch a very solid round of golf."
Ciganda birdied seven holes on the day, vaulting the Spaniard into a tie for 19th. For the three-day tournament, the reigning Pac-10 Champion shot a 1-over 217 (77-74-66).
"She had a clear plan and executed brilliantly," said Luellen.
Ciganda first set her career-best mark of 66 at the 2009 Ping/ASU Invitational, hosted at the ASU Karsten Golf Course, her freshman season.
Junior Giulia Molinaro shot a 76 in the final round of play finishing up with a 9-over 225 to round out the tournament. Molinaro finished tied for 50th.
"Giulia will be focusing on inside 100 yards in preparation for our next tournament," said Luellen.
The field for the tournament contains the top-tier talent in collegiate women's golf. Last week, Golfweek Magazine listed its top-30 golfers to watch heading into the season. Of the 30 golfers listed, 26 will be competing in this inaugural tournament to kick off the fall season.
Arizona State last won the NCAA Fall Preview in 2008 en route to its seventh team NCAA Championship in the spring of 2009.
"The Traditions course is great and we look forward to returning with our Sun Devil team in May."
