FULLERTON, Calif. - Caylyn Carlson's third grand slam of the season coupled with Katelyn Boyd's 12th home run of the year and Hillary Bach's sixth shutout highlighted the seventh-ranked ASU Softball team's day Saturday as they topped UNLV 10-0 (5). Bach took the win to close out Day Three of the Judi Garmen Classic with the Sun Devils now holding a 26-4 overall record.
Hillary Bach got the starting nod in the eye-opener against the Rebels where she saw UNLV quickly put a runner in scoring position, but worked herself out of the jam like a champion. Her offense backed her up scoring first as they loaded the bases against a struggling Kylie Wagner who tossed an illegal pitch to bring a run home.
The Sun Devil bats opened up a can in the third inning as a run was walked in with the bases loaded before Caylyn Carlson took a 2-1 pitch on a trip to the beach as she sent it over right center to drive the crowd bananas with her third grand slam in two weeks giving ASU a 6-0 lead.
An RBI ground out from Sam Parlich in the fourth gave the Sun Devils a 7-0 lead before they finished it off in the fifth inning with some of their favorite two-out lightning as Caylyn Carlson cracked a single to left center before Lesley Rogers walked setting up a three run bomb off the light post in right field for Katelyn Boyd as she hit her 12th home run of the year and closed the game out early. The shot sealed Hillary Bach's 13th win of the season for a 13-1 record and her sixth shutout of the year.
