Arizona State sophomore swimmer Rebecca Ejdervik earned All-America honors as she placed fifth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke. The sophomore led the Sun Devils on day two of the NCAA Championships as they finished the second round in 29th with 14 points. The 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will continue through Saturday at the Purdue University's Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
In her first NCAA Championships, Ejdervik raced to a career-best time of 59.90 to finish in the top five. Ejdervik is now second on ASU's all-time list and is the Sun Devils' first first-team All-American since Caitlin Andrew in 2008. Ejdervik, who also won the Pac-10 Championship in the event this season, is head coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker's first Sun Devil All-Americna
"Rebecca stuck to the game-plan and came out with her best time," said Tierney-Walker. "She was excited because not only was it her best time but that she had such a great performance at such a high level."
Elina Eggers was just out of the 3-meter diving finals as she finished 19th with 306.9 points. Jordyn Green finished 38th in the 100 breast after clocking in at 1:02.52. Jamie Martinez competed in the 200 IM, placing 36th with a time of 54.38.
The Sun Devils will compete in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 10-meter platform tomorrow during the final day of competition.
