Box Score

LOS ANGLES, Calif.  – Despite the 11.5 blocks the Sun Devil defense posted Friday night, the assault from the  tenth-ranked UCLA Bruins proved to be too much as the Los Angeles-based foe took off with a 25-22, 25-17 and 25-19 sweep to even the series at 1-1 on the season. The loss drops ASU to 11-15 overall and 5-8 in Pac-10 play while the Bruins improve to 18-7 and 3-6 in conference action.

Set one saw the Maroon and Gold D step up for 5.5 blocks, led by Erica Wilson with four block assists in the set to push UCLA to eight tie scores and three lead changes. UCLA’s Rachael Kidder stepped up in the set for six kills and was accompanied by Katie Camp’s .667 attack percentage for four kills to take off with the 25-22 win.

The second set ASU couldn’t find a rhythm as 10 unforced errors led to an .026 attack percentage while UCLA kept the pace steady, hitting a .211 clip. Dicey McGraw hit .400 in the set with five kills to lead the Bruin attack as the blue & gold marauders took a 25-17 win to head into the break up 2-0.

The Sun Devils battled back a bit more in the third set, hitting .116, but never fully hitting their stride, as UCLA put down five team blocks and a .239 attack percentage to keep the set just out of reach. While ASU forced seven tie scores and two lead changes, the effort just wasn’t enough as UCLA completed the sweep 25-19.

The Sun Devils return to the hardwood again tomorrow as they set to face the sixth-ranked USC Women of Troy in Los Angeles with a start time of 6 p.m. PT.
