LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Arizona State women's soccer team dropped its second consecutive contest on Friday, falling to Long Beach State on the road 1-0.
After scoring 19 goals in their first seven games, the Sun Devils (6-2-1) failed to score a goal for the second consecutive game. Like in their loss to UCF last Sunday, the Sun Devils had opportunities (11 shots on the afternoon) however were not able to find the back of the net.
The 49ers (7-3-1) scored the game's only goal in the 34th minute when junior midfielder Shawna Gordon connected on a shot from 30 yards away into an open net to give Long Beach State what eventually turned out to be the game-winning goal.
For the game the 49ers had slight advantages in both shots (12-11) and corner kicks (7-6). Leading the Sun Devils statistically were freshman midfielder Holland Crook, who had four shots and sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Gillmore, who had five saves.
The Sun Devils close out their Los Angeles-area road trip on Sunday (1 p.m.) when they play at Pepperdine.
