The No. 21 Arizona State women's tennis team came close to an upset as they were edged 4-3 by No. 8 UCLA. The Sun Devils fell to 12-5, 4-3 Pac-10.
The Sun Devils dropped the doubles point as only one Sun Devil doubles team came away with a victory. The duo of Michelle Brycki and Hannah James came out on top of a hard-fought match against Pamela Montez and Carling Seguso. The team survived through four tie-breakers to win 9-8 (4) on Court Three. Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna fell 8-5 to No. 4 Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack on Court One while Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons dropped their match 8-5 to Noelle Hickey and Nina Pantic.
Hein will come back to Tempe with a huge upset under her belt as she defeated No. 5 Yasmin Schnack in straight sets. The junior defeated Schnack 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Court One. Hein's doubles partner McKenna will also leave Los Angeles with an upset. The 2009 All-American took down No. 43 Noelle Hickey 7-6 (6), 6-4 on Court Two. Oving up to Court 4 did not phase Brycki as she remained flawless in dual match play as she earned a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (4) win over Montez.
The Sun Devils will head down to Tucson for their final dual match of the season against Arizona on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
