TEMPE - The second day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships was not as kind as the first to the Arizona State University wrestling team as four of the Sun Devils were eliminated from the competition and only one remains at the national event being held inside the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb., on Friday. Anthony Robles went 1-2 on the day and earned All-America honors for the second year in a row to lead the way and will wrestle for seventh place on Saturday morning.

In the team standings, the Sun Devils have scored 18.5 points and are tied for 29th place with Oregon State while Iowa leads the overall race with 120.5 points. Cornell (75.0), Iowa State (67.0) and Wisconsin (62.0) round out the Top 4 places in the championships.

Robles, seeded fourth at 125 pounds, opened the day in the quarterfinals and faced fifth-seeded Andrew Long (Iowa State) where he dropped a close, 5-3, decision to fall into the consolation rounds. Needing a victory to stave off elimination and to earn All-America honors, Robles did just that by scoring a 10-1 major decision over 11th-seeded Michael Martinez (Wyoming) to advance in the tournament. Robles then faced second-seeded and returning national champion Troy Nickerson (Cornell) where he lost a 2-1 decision. The Sun Devil junior will now take on Nikko Triggas (Ohio State) with the winner finishing the tournament in seventh place.

Te Edwards (157) was the lone Sun Devil in the consolation round to win his first match of the day as he downed Thomas Scotton (North Carolina) with a 6-2 decision before falling to Anthony Jones (Michigan State), 10-9, in the consolation third round.

Ben Ashmore (133), Chris Drouin (141) and Erik Nye (285) each faced elimination in the second round of consolation matches, but were unable to defeat their opponents. Ashmore took on David Marble (Bucknell) and suffered a 7-1 loss to see his season come to an end while Drouin dropped a 9-1 major decision to third-seeded Michael Thorn (Minnesota). Nye dropped a 2-0 decision to Pac-10 rival and 11th-seeded Mitch Monteiro (CS Bakersfield) to be bounced from the tournament.

Robles will compete for seventh place on Saturday morning with ESPNU and ESPN360.com providing coverage for the medal matches.
