FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.Brandon Bethke ran another solid race for the Arizona State University track and field team and Jason Lewis earned All-America honors in his second event of the meet as the Sun Devils placed seventh as a men’s team at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships that were concluded Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The men’s 4x400m relay team also added a Top 8 finish to the mix to give the Sun Devils 21 team points on the weekend and their fourth-consecutive Top 10 finish at the national meets (indoor and outdoor included).

Overall, Florida won the men’s title with 57 points and was followed by Texas A&M and Oregon (44), LSU (42), host Arkansas (38) and Indiana (25) in the Top 6. In the women’s standings, Oregon won the title with 61 points and was followed by Tennessee (36), LSU (35) and Florida (33) in the Top 4.

The day opened with Lewis competing in the weight throw where the defending national champion placed sixth overall with a toss of 21.15m (69-04.75). With his finish, which earned the team three points, Lewis collected All-America honors in both throwing events for the second NCAA indoor meet in a row and bringing his career total to six All-America honors earned.

On the track, Bethke placed fourth in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:11.61 to add five team points and collect All-America honors as well. Bethke entered the meet ranked fifth and battled throughout and holding off late charges to finish in fourth.

The final event of the meet also was the final event featuring Sun Devil athletes and that was the 4x400m relay. ASU’s team of Donald Sanford, Justin Kremer, Ray Miller and Joel Phillip finished third in their heat with a time of 3:08.51 and eventually placed eighth overall to add one final point to the team’s total. All four men earned All-America honors for their Top 8 finish.

Overall, the Sun Devil men had eight individuals collect nine total All-America honors which also included Ryan Whiting’s shot put victory one day before. Lewis was the lone multiple All-American as he was seventh in the shot put on Friday before finishing sixth in the weight throw on Saturday.

The conclusion of the indoor season brings about the start of the outdoor season as the Sun Devils will play host to the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Friday (hammer throw) and Saturday (all other events) at Sun Angel Stadium.
