The No. 24 Arizona State women's gymnastics kept the momentum going as they hit every event for their third straight meet and earned a season-high 195.9. Unfortunately, the score was not enough to hold off the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal as they won the meet with a 196.675. Mary Atkinson continued her solid junior season as she scored 39.5 to place second in the all-around behind Stanford's Carly Janiga. Stephanie Hangartner also competed in the all-around, putting together a 37.975.
Beginning the meet on vault, the Sun Devils overcame an uncharacteristic Kaitlynn Bormann fall midway through the rotation to pull out a 48.95 team score. Atkinson led the charge as she has all season, reaching a career-best 9.9 for the fourth time this season. Callie Price and Amelia Rew each tabbed scores of 9.8. Carly McMahon stuck her landing for a 9.75 while Hangartner earned a solid 9.7 in the leadoff position. The Cardinal scored 49.175 on bars in the first rotation.
The Gym Devils hit bars for the second rotation. Atkinson nailed her routine for her second 9.9 of the night while Mercurio tallied a 9.825 to leadoff the Sun Devils. Hangartner was solid with a 9.8 as was Nickie Johnson who scored 9.775. Bormann struggled on a few of her skills to garner a 9.6, which the Sun Devils were forced to count after an unusual Kahoku Palafox bar miss. The Sun Devils tabbed 48.9 on bars while the Cardinal earned 49.2 on vault.
Bormann put her early struggles behind her, as she was the Sun Devils' leader on beam with a 9.825. Atkinson put together a nice routine to capture a new career-high of 9.8. Kelly Reilly continued to be solid as a rock for the Sun Devils on beam as she earned a 9.75. Palafox struggled to stay in her series, but held on to earn 9.725. The team earned 38.775 on beam while Stanford was forced to count a fall on floor.
The team ended the night putting on a show for the crowd on floor. Madison Snowden and Atkinson each hit new career-bests as 9.9 were given to both of them. Johnson continues to be a great addition to the Sun Devils' floor lineup as she earned a 9.85. Brittany Schuett tied her career-best of 9.825 for the second time this season while Hangartner tumbled her way to a 9.8. The team captured their highest floor score of the season with a 49.275.
The Sun Devils women's gymnastics team and the ASU men's club team will compete alongside each other for the co-ed meet. The women will take on No. 3 Oregon State while the men face Air Force. The meet begins at 7 p.m.
