The fifth-ranked Sun Devils are tied for fourth place after shooting a 13-over par 293 in the first day of the Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational. The Devils are knotted up with San Diego St. and tournament-host Illinois. Scott Pinckney tallied four birdies en route to a 2-under par 68 and is tied with Northwestern's Eric Chun and Florida State's Seath Lauer for the individual tournament lead.

Senior Jesper Kennegard fired a 5-over par 75 to place 36th. Senior Knut Borsheim shot a 9-over par 79 to finish tied for 64th and junior Cameron Edens ended the day in 72nd with a 12-over par 82.

Northwestern recorded a 6-over par 286 and is holding on to the overall team lead, while Florida State is in second with an 8-over par 288. No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oklahoma St. and Pac-10 rival USC ended the day tied for ninth after each team shot a 15-over par 295.
