CORVALLIS, Ore. – In what proved to be a rollercoaster ride of a game, the No. 9 Sun Devil Softball team was shocked in a tough 5-4 walk-off loss to the Oregon State Beavers Thursday afternoon in Corvallis. Hillary Bach took the loss on the season to put her record at 23-9 overall. ASU falls to 36-18 overall and 8-11 in the Pac-10 while OSU improves to 25-28 overall and 4-15 in conference play.

The Beavers took it to the Sun Devils first in the bottom of the second inning as catcher Stephanie Ewing took a 1-0 pitch deep to left center for her sixth longball of the season to take the 1-0 lead. The Beavs tacked on another run in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Paige Lowe to take the 2-0 lead.

The Sun Devils remained dormant until the fifth inning when they exploded for four runs lead with an RBI single from Kaylyn Castillo to plate Lesley Rogers before with two on and one out, Krista Donnenwirth lit up a full count pitch to left center to plate three and take the 4-2 lead.

Beavers never say die though as they made a game of it taking a run back from an RBI single from Paige Lowe to left center on a clean count to make it 4-3 in ASU’s favor after five.

The Sun Devils looked to be ready to wrap up the win in the seventh as they took two quick outs from the Beavers before pinch hitter Tarah Black blooped a single just barely over the top of Hillary Bach’s glove to put Paige Lowe up to bat where she wasted no time taking the first pitch she saw deep to left field for a two-run shot and the walk-off win.

The Sun Devils hit the diamond again tomorrow as they take on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. At 4 p.m. at Howe Field on the University of Oregon campus.
