TEMPE, Ariz. – Powered by Hillary Bach’s tenth complete game shutout on the season and Krista Donnenwirth’s 2-for-3 performance the 10th-seeded Arizona State Softball team opened the 2009 postseason with a 5-0 win over San Diego State in Game Two of the Tempe Regional Friday night. ASU is now 41-16 overall as San Diego State falls to 33-19.
A single to left field from Kaitlin Cochran got the party started in the first inning as Krista Donnenwirth took a 0-1 to left to score Cochran and grab the first run of the game. San Diego State’s pitching struggled in the fourth as they walked in two runs while ASU collected two hits to put up for three runs to run off with the 4-0 lead.
Hillary Bach lit it up to shut the Aztecs down through the rest of the game with ASU adding another run in the sixth for security as Cochran and Donnenwirth paired up again with Donnenwirth collecting another RBI. Bach closed out the game with the shutout to go 25-9 overall on the season.
The Sun Devils will take to the field tomorrow in the winner’s bracket as they set to kick-off at 3 p.m. on ESPNU, taking on LSU as the visiting team. Games tomorrow will be played at 3, 5:30 and 8 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
