TEMPE - The Arizona State University track and field team opened competition at the 51st Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday evening with one Sun Devil racing on the day. Kauren Tarver, a true freshman, ran her first collegiate 3,000m steeplechase and placed 11th overall in 10:45.94.
Tarver's time qualified her for the NCAA West Region Championships at the end of May and also ranked her ninth on the ASU all-time Top 10 list.
Six Sun Devils will compete at the Relays on Friday with several more competing on the final day of the meet (Saturday). On Friday, Jasmine Chaney will compete in the 400m hurdles while the men that take to the track will include Calvin Abram, Allante Battle, Marcus Duncan and Lawrence Trice in the 100m dash, Abram, Battle and Trice will run in the 200m dash and Brandon Bethke will take part in the 5,000m run.
