TEMPE, Ariz. – With both Krista Donnenwirth and Caylyn Carlson going two-for-three with two RBIs a piece leading the offensive assault, the seventh-ranked ASU Sun Devils topped the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 14-2 in five innings Saturday night in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. The win gives ASU their 20th of the season as they now hold at 20-4 overall.

A State got their offensive game rolling in the second inning as they put seven runs on the board with seven hits with Caylyn Carlson, Kaylyn Castillo, Jessica Mapes, Kaitlin Cochran and Katelyn Boyd all collecting RBI hits on the inning to give Megan Elliott a comfortable 7-0 lead after two complete.

The Jackrabbits sparked some offense themselves in the third inning as they collected three hits and a walk to put two runs on the board before Megan Elliott settled back in to shut down South Dakota State for the rest of the night as she locked up her fourth win on the season.

ASU’s offense wasn’t quite done yet though as they added seven more runs in the fourth inning, this time off of five hits and a Jackrabbit error. Bringing around the runs this time were Krista Donnenwirth, Caylyn Carlson, Jessie Ware and freshmen Talor Haro and Christina Zambrana.

The Sun Devils will wrap their three-game series with the Jackrabbits tomorrow as they face-off in Game Three at 1 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
