The No. 20 Arizona State women's tennis team notched their tenth win of the season by defeating No. 39 Sacramento State. The Sun Devils improved to 10-4 overall while the Hornets fell to 12-7.
The doubles team stormed ahead to a solid start. The Abdala sisters swept past Katrina Zheltova and Luba Schifris with an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 slot. Kelcy McKenna partnered up with freshman Michelle Brycki to take on Clarisse Baca and Joyce Martinez Guiterrez. The Sun Devil duo battled through three tiebreakers to win 8-7 (3). In the No. 3 slot, Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons breezed past Maria Meliuk and Aileen Tsan 8-2.
The Sun Devils used the momentum from the doubles round to the singles matches. No. 3 ranked McKenna picked up her 19th win over a ranked opponent, as she took down Zheltova in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Nadia Abdala battled back after dropping her first set to Meliuk to pull out a 3-6, 6-2, 13-11 win. Nadia Abdala's sister Laila defeated Tsan in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Michelle Brycki dropped the lone match for the Sun Devils. The freshman fell 6-2, 6-4 to Luba Schifris. In the No. 5 position, Brown handed Baca a 6-1, 6-2 loss. Simmons fought through a tough final set to defeat Joyce Martinez Guiterrez 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3)
The Sun Devils will head to the Bay Area next week for two Pac-10 contests. The Sun Devils will take on California on Friday and battle the Cardinal on Saturday.
