SCOTTSDALE – The Big Green in the Desert Multis came to a close on Thursday afternoon at Scottsdale Community College with two members of the Arizona State University track and field team placing among the Top 5 in the men’s decathlon in a meet hosted by Dartmouth. Jamie Sandys scored 6,033 points to place fifth overall while teammate Jeremy Marcinko, who is redshirting this season and competed unattached from the team in the meet, finished just ahead of Sandys with 6,126 points for a fourth-place showing.

Sandys entered the day in fifth place overall with 3,163 points and remained that way after the final five events of the meet. He finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.83 (752 points) before taking fifth in the discus with a toss of 33.84m (541 points). Sandys then earned 482 points with a clearance of 3.50m in the pole vault to take sixth before his toss of 42.06m in the javelin yielded 472 points. In the final event of the day, the 1,500m run, Sandys earned 563 points by running 4:59.43.

Marcinko opened his second day of competition with a time of 16.62 in the hurdles (665 points) before throwing the discus 33.65m for 537 points. The final three events of the day helped Marcinko move past four competitors to his final placement of fourth as he first cleared 4.00m in the pole vault for 617 points before tossing the javelin 46.05m for another 530 points. He then rank 4:50.79 to finish third in the race after earning another 614 points.

The Sun Devils will compete in a pair of events starting Friday, including the hammer throw of the ASU Invitational in Tempe while two runners -- Ali Kielty and Jenna Kingma -- will compete in the Stanford Invitational. On Saturday, the remaining events of the ASU Invitational will take place with the discus leading off at 10 a.m. while the running events start at 5 p.m.
