TEMPE, Ariz. - Jessica Mapes went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs on the night while Hillary Bach pitched a complete game shutout giving four up hits and no walks while striking out four on the night as ASU grabbed another win on the season topping the UTC Mocs 8-0 in five innings in Tempe at Farrington Stadium Thursday night. The third-ranked Sun Devils are now 6-1 overall with Hillary Bach pushing her record to 4-0 while UTC falls to 4-3 overall.
Krista Donnenwirth heated up the offensive oven in the second inning as she led off the inning with a 2-2 pitch launched over the left center wall for a solo shot to take the 1-0 lead. A RBI single from Jessica Mapes and a costly Moc error gave ASU three by the end of the second as Hillary Bach rolled on in the circle for the Sun Devils.
A lead-off walk to Kaitlin Cochran in the third sparked the bats again as Krista Donnenwirth pulled a walk. With bases loaded and two outs Katie Crabb dug in to take a full count pitch to left field for a two-RBI double to the walk to give ASU the 5-0 lead.
An unearned run in the fourth followed with RBI hits from Annie Lockwood and Jessica Mapes in the fifth is all the Sun Devils needed to wrap the game early as they locked up an 8-0 win in five innings with Hillary Bach taking the win.
Next up the Sun Devils will play host to the Littlewood Classic starting tomorrow with games starting at 9 a.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. ASU will face Illinois State at 5:30 p.m. and UTC at 7:30 p.m.
