AUSTIN, Tx.--Although play got off to a slow start for the Devils, after a 30 minute rain delay, there was no shortage of action from the women's tennis team Saturday afternoon as they took down the Longhorns 4-3.
The Devils picked up three singles wins on the day, including Micaela Hein, who took down Stephanie Davison in two sets 6-2, 6-2. No. 3 Kelcy McKenna dropped the first set against Krista Damico 4-6, but rallied back to defeat Damico 6-3, 6-3. Nadia Abdala put up a strong showing, battling out Caroline Larsson 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 for the win.
In doubles play, No. 9 Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna retained their flawless record, defeating No. 11 Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic 8-5. Krista Damico and Maggie Mello put up a battle, but sisters Laila Abdala and Nadia Abdala overcame with an 8-6 victory. Although ultimately defeated, Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons wouldn't go down without a fight, narrowly falling to Longhorn duo Amanda Craddock and Caroline Larsson 8-6.
This win improves the team's away record to 2-1 and their overall record 5-1 this season. Women's tennis returns to play next Saturday, February 28 in Eugene, Ore. facing off against the Oregon Ducks.
