The Arizona State Sun Devils defeated the California Golden Bears with a season high score of 193.725 to 191.475. Sophomore Beaté Jones and Senior Nicole Harris tied for first in the all-around with scores of 39.2. It was Jones' career-high score. Sophomore Francesca Mercurio tied for second place with Golden Bear Avery Gee with scores of 38.25.
The Gym Devils started the competition on the vault compiling a team total of 48.35. Mary Atkinson, Jones and Harris were the highest scoring Sun Devils both posting 9.775, tying for third place. Mercurio posted a 9.525 and Freshman Kelly Reilly scored a 9.5. The Golden Bears had a team total of 48.5
On bars, the Sun Devils scored their season-high team total of 49.00 topping the Golden Bears' 47.025. Kaitlynn Bormann shattered her career-high by rocking her set for a 9.875 taking first place. Tiana Jean hit her routine to place second with 9.85. Jones had a solid routine tying for third place with a 9.775. Mercurio scored her season-high with a 9.75. Harris performed a clean routine to score a 9.75. Freshman Stephanie Hangartner performed an exhibition routine scoring a 9.75.
In the third rotation, Harris performed a clean routine scoring her season-high of a 9.85, placing first. Jones tied for second with a 9.75. Mercurio stuck her routine scoring a 9.725. Jean scored a 9.7. Amber Hammerschmidt was solid until she fell on her dismount. She posted a 9.225. Bormann fell on her series scoring a 9.1.The Sun Devils had a team total of 48.25 and California posted a 48.275.
Finishing on floor, the Gym Devils compiled a team total of 48.125. Jean and Jones each performed their way to the team's first scores of 9.9 on floor. Both marks were career-best for the girls. Nicole Harris tied for second with a 9.825. The Sun Devils had to count two falls as Hangartner, Brittany Schuett and Mercurio stumbled. California scored a total of 47. 675.
The Sun Devils travel to the University of Arizona next week to compete against the Wildcats.
