The Arizona State men's golf team is in sixth place after the first round at the 20th annual Ping Preview, held at the par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, which serves as a preview for the 2009 NCAA Championships.
ASU shot an 8-over 292 in the first round, while sophomore Jesper Kennegard, a honorable mention All-American last year, is tied for eighth at 1-under 70, as he was one of 13 golfers with a score under par.
Freshman Chan Kim is at 1-over 72 and is tied for 18th while sophomore Scott Pinckney and Stephan Gross are both at 4-over 75 and tied for 345h. Junior Braxton Marquez is at 9-over 80.
Oklahoma State was the only team to break par, carding an impressive two-under 282. The Cowboys placed three individuals in the top 10. Southern Cal's Jamie Lovemark fired a five-under par 66 to lead all individuals and holds a two-stroke advantage over Florida's Andres Echavarria, Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler and Tennessee's Cameron Lawrence. A total of 13 golfers finished with scores under par.
