TEMPE, Ariz. - Caylyn Carlson hit a grand slam while Katie Burkhart struck out 14 Friday night as the No. 1 ASU Softball team cruised to a 7-2 win over the No. 23 Washington Huskies in front of 2,043 faithful, the second largest crowd in Sun Devil Softball history. The win gives ASU a 44-2 overall record and 8-0 conference record and drops Washington to 24-14-1 overall and 3-5 in the Pac-10.

The Sun Devil offense clicked into gear immediately as they hit through the entire line-up in the first inning, drawing four walks, which they took full advantage of as Caylyn Carlson dug in to crank her ninth home run on the season as she fouled off a few to far left before taking a 2-2 pitch deep to right center for a grand slam as ASU rattled off a 6-0 lead after one.

The Sun Devils added another run in the fourth as Kaitlin Cochran hit her tenth home run of the season as she launched a solo shot over the right field wall to become the fourth Sun Devil with a double digit home run tally on the season.

Washington had something to say about it in the seventh as a costly error placed a Husky on first base where UW proceeded to rattle off four hits bringing around two unearned runs on the Sun Devils before Burkhart locked in and finished them off with two strikeouts and a ground out to wrap the game with a final 7-2 score.

The Sun Devils will wrap up their Pac-10 home opening weekend tomorrow with one more match-up with No. 23 Washington at high-noon in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
