Revised Kajikawa Classic schedule in PDF Format
TEMPE, Ariz. - With rain delaying the majority of the evening games, Day One of the 2008 Kajikawa Classic finally ended with No. 4 ASU taking one win on the day with a 6-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos. The Sun Devils are now 5-1 on the season with games against Virginia, Nebraska and Memphis looming tomorrow as the Kajikawa Classic rolls on.
Against the Broncos Renee Welty had a break-out game going two for four with two doubles and three RBI to drive in half of the Sun Devils' runs on the night. Katie Burkhart held the defense down with a stellar three-hit outing for 18 K's and striking out the side three times.
The Sun Devils jumped on the lead in the first as with runners on first and second, Renee Welty lifted a double to right center off the first pitch she saw to plate two. The Sun Devils never looked back, tacking on two more in the third and fifth and two in the fourth to shut the door on the Broncos.
Action resumes tomorrow for the 2008 Kajikawa Classic with all games which were being suspended at Tempe Sports Complex being resumed tomorrow. The Sun Devils will make-up their postponed match-up against the Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow morning at 8:15 a.m. and will face Memphis and Nebraska as well at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
