TEMPE, Ariz. -- By: Carmen Vitali, ASU Media Relations
Sybil Dosty scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Dymond Simon and Lauren Lacey added 10 points each as No. 25 Arizona State defeated UC Irvine 75-23.
The 23 points scored by the Anteaters was the lowest total ever allowed by a Pac-10 team. For Arizona State, it's the second time in as many years it has set a Pac-10 defensive record. Last season the Sun Devils defeated Washington State 59-30, the fewest points allowed in a game involving two Pac-10 teams.
Rebecca Maessen had 10 points to lead UC Irvine (3-3), which shot 21 percent from the field.
Dosty made 6-of-9 field goal attempts, scoring her 13 points in only 19 minutes of play. Her 12 rebounds helped the Sun Devils control the boards with a 47-24 advantage.
Also contributing to the Sun Devils' success was a 17-of-21 performance from the foul line. Lacey led Arizona State with four free throws.
The Sun Devils will face Northern Arizona on Sunday in the championship game of the ASU Classic. The Lumberjacks defeated Hawaii 61-58 in Saturday's second game.
